Canadian buyers can start ordering the rebate-eligible, battery-electric Class 4 and 5 trucks from Daimler Truck brand, Rizon, in June

Daimler Truck’s newest brand of electric vehicles, Rizon, has announced its battery-electric Class 4 and Class 5 trucks are coming to Canada.

Initially launched last year in the U.S., Rizon (also U.S.-based) began its first deliveries of its all-electric Class 4 and 5 trucks in California this March.

The company will enter the Canadian market by year-end, with the first deliveries scheduled before 2025.

“Canada is very advanced regarding green energy and infrastructure, and is a natural next step for Rizon’s second market,” said Andreas Deuschle, the global head of Rizon, in a press statement. “We are very happy to bring our zero-emission solution to Canadian customers.”

Through the federal government’s incentives for Medium- and Heavy-duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) program, Rizon trucks are eligible for rebates of up to $75,000. Additional provincial incentives are available in British Columbia and Quebec.

Rizon Class 4 and 5 truck features

Rizon is launching its e-trucks in Canada with four model variants: the e16L, e16M, e18L and e18M. They range from 7.25 to 8.55 tons in gross vehicle weight.

The e16L travels up to 257 kilometres on a single charge, while the e16M goes 177 km.

Rizon says the electric trucks are suitable for various applications, including dry vans, flatbeds, landscape dumps and reefers. The trucks also feature an electric power take-off (ePTO) that allows it to support specialized equipment such as reefer belt drives and hydraulic pumps. 

Rizon trucks have a preconditioning function that uses power from the grid to optimize battery temperature before operation. The trucks also come with winter package features for driver comfort, including a heated seat, steering wheel and windshield.

Canadian orders and more MHDVs

Starting June 2024, Canadian customers can preorder Rizon electric trucks through an exclusive distribution agreement with Velocity Electric Vehicle Canada.

The initial sales network will cover Alberta, B.C. and Quebec.
