The first 12 Rizon Class 4 and 5 electric trucks have hit Canadian shores this week, with another 10 set to follow later this month.

Rizon Trucks is the ninth — and newest — brand under the Daimler Trucks umbrella. It announced it would be coming to Canada in April 2024 and, with the arrival of the first shipment, is clarifying that its initial delivery of trucks will go into service first in B.C. and Quebec.

“I’m very excited the first order of Rizon trucks is reaching Canada and will soon be on the streets serving customers with zero-emission operations,” said Andreas Deuschle, the global head of Rizon Truck, in a press release.

Rizon says its customers include municipalities, rental and leasing companies as well as freight and logistics providers.

The vehicles are eligible for the $75,000 federal medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission incentive. In addition, the Rizon trucks may qualify for additional rebates at a provincial level for up to $75,000 in B.C. and $100,000 in Quebec.

Vehicle capabilities

Customers in Canada will be able to purchase four variations of the Rizon Class 4 and 5s: the e16L, e16M, e18L and the e18M.

The vehicles will range in weight from 15,995 to 18,850 pounds and will have a single charge range (depending on battery size) between 177km and 257km. The trucks are able to recharge using DC fast charging or Level 2 charging.

“They are ideally suited to a variety of applications such as dry vans, flatbeds, landscape dumps, garbage compactors, and reefers, and feature an electric power take-off (ePTO), which is controllable from the cab and allows for specialized equipment such as reefer belt drives and hydraulic pumps,” reads the Rizon press release.

The vehicles in the first shipment will be upfitted with features including dry boxes, service bodies and landscape dumps before they are distributed to customers in January 2025.

Canadian expansion

As of November 2024 Rizon has six dealerships in B.C.

A new partnership with Quebec-based commercial dealership brand, Globocam, is adding three new dealerships in Ontario and Quebec in the coming months.

Rizon is also claiming its trucks (already in service in the U.S.) Canadian climate-ready including optimization “for cold weather operations.”

This simply means that Rizon’s trucks offer battery preconditioning before driving and include features like heated seats, windshields and steering wheels.
